The Khanater Al-Khaieryea Cultural Palace in Egypt originated from a 1997 public design competition. A cultural center is a building or complex dedicated to promoting culture and the arts—a public space offering museums, libraries, and similar services run by public, private, or nonprofit organizations. This project was conceived as a first major creative endeavor following graduation in 1996. The 3,000-square-meter building draws its form from Islamic architecture and the rural character of the site, transforming traditional vocabulary into a modern architectural language. Its levels are arranged thematically to suggest a journey through time: history and the past occupy the lower, below-ground levels, while the ground floor addresses the present. Environmentally, the design responds to prevailing standards to minimize ecological impact—the surrounding gardens use desert plant species selected to reduce water consumption and thrive in arid conditions..
